Overland Track Walkers Hut

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania

The Overland Track is one of Australia’s most famous bush treks. The 65km track is situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and sees more than 8000 visitors complete the 6-day trek each year.

Windy Ridge Hut (Bert Nichols Hut) was a particular challenge in design and construction as it is in such a remote area, being 9km to Lake St Clair.  This hut provides much needed facilities in an eco-friendly manner, with a minimal impact on the surrounding environment and scenery.

Designed to be robust but welcoming, material choice and end detail were paramount in such a remote and sometimes harsh area.

Waste management was carefully engineered, internal surfaces finished and detailed for ease of cleaning.
