The Burnett Street Apartments will be a high-quality, multi-residential apartment building, within walking distance of the bustling heart of North Hobart’s dining precinct in one direction, and leafy Soundy Park in the other.
This brand-new, 5-storey building will consist of 27 standard apartments and 4 penthouses, subground residential parking, and high quality commercial facilities at ground level, with the design reflecting the semi-industrial style of the neighbouring structures – with a modern slant. Design considerations were made to reduce the building’s overall visual bulk, and all building materials have been carefully selected and locally sourced, wherever possible, to reflect and complement Tasmania’s environmental heritage.
The building mass is similar in aesthetic and appeal to the surrounding urban environment, and lightly echoes the simple form of the neighbouring structures, pulling elements from the industrial heritage of the area. Vertical timber-look sliding panels that will work as a sunshading mechanism will be used for privacy as well as highlighting “carved out” balcony spaces in the façade, softening the mostly industrial language along Burnett Street. Façade lighting will be used to highlight architectural features and brighten up the public strip, whilst also creating a safer pedestrian area. Plantings along the facade and at ground level will further soften the frontage, and complement the current urban language of North Hobart.
The Burnett Street Apartments will not only be part of the attractive new options to the current housing stock, but will also expand the vibrant NoHo experience, creating an engaging, visually appealing, and community-focussed addition to North Hobart.
